Francois Brunet

Chair, ICC Global Competition Commission

François Brunet founded Brunet Avocats at the end of 2021 while practicing EU and French competition laws now for over two decades. Previously, he was Partner at Hogan Lovells (2017-2021) and at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton (2000-2017). Mr. Brunet has represented clients in a number of cartel/monopolization investigations and M&A transactions in the television, cable, car equipment, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, cement, paper and other industries.

In June 2021, he was appointed Chair of the Global Competition Commission of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), which comprises more than 400 prominent antitrust practitioners operating in over 80 jurisdictions.

As Professor at the University Paris 5-René Descartes (2000-2009), he is widely published on various aspects of EU and French competition laws and is distinguished as a leading competition/antitrust lawyer by Chambers Global, The World’s Leading Lawyers and The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers. He co-authored La pratique communautaire du contrôle des concentrations (De Boeck, Brussels) with Antoine Winckler and Mario Siragusa. He also co-edited with Guy Canivet, former Chief Justice of the French Cour de Cassation, the EU Competition Law Handbook (Le nouveau droit communautaire de la concurrence).

Mr. Brunet graduated from the Ecole Normale Supérieure in 1989, the Ecole HEC in 1990, and the Paris Law School (University of Paris II) in 1992. Mr. Brunet is a member of the Paris bar and is admitted to practice before the European Court of Justice and the European General Court.
