Pınar Akman

Professor of Law specialising in competition law at the University of Leeds

Professor Pınar Akman is a Professor of Law specialising in competition law at the University of Leeds. Outside of academia, she is a Senior Advisor at White and Case LLP. Previously, she served as an Ordinary Member (judge) at the UK’s Competition Appeal Tribunal and as a member of the Financial Conduct Authority’s Innovation Advisory Group. She has published widely in the area of competition law and economics, particularly on abuse of dominance, vertical restraints, and competition in digital markets. Her publications include the sell-out monograph The Concept of Abuse in EU Competition Law: Law and Economics Approaches alongside numerous peer-reviewed publications. She received a Philip Leverhulme Prize for her research into competition law in the digital economy. She has presented her research in over 25 countries around the world and advised and/or provided expertise to numerous governments and organisations including the IMF, United Nations, European Parliament, House of Lords, US Federal Trade Commission and World Economic Forum. She is a Non-Governmental Advisor appointed by the United Kingdom at the International Competition Network. In 2022, she was profiled by GCR as one of the “world’s most influential competition scholars” and in 2023, she received a Women@ Five Star Competition Professional Award.
